Holiday Stuffing

Stuffing, dressing, whatever ya call it..

I need to admit something to you..I don’t measure most things when I’m cooking. Most of my recipes are my best guesses at what I used, so take my instructions with a grain of salt. We all have different preferences in flavors and textures, saltiness, etc. That being said, all of the food I make usually turns out yummy! Have faith in yourself, have confidence, practice your skills, and make some darn good stuffing. You’ve got this!

This stuffing is great on its own, but I also use it in my stuffing-stuffed mushrooms recipe! It’s a yummy holiday side dish no matter what way you prepare it. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 1.5-2 loaves of bread (any kind will do, but I prefer my homemade bread)

  • 1.5 sticks of butter + a couple extra Tbsp to put on top if desired

  • 1 large onion, white or yellow, chopped to your desired size

  • 6 large celery stalks, chopped to your desired size

  • Salt & pepper to taste

  • 1 Tbsp poultry seasoning

  • 1 tsp oregano or marjoram

  • 3 fresh sage leaves, finely chopped (or 1 tsp dry sage powder)

  • Fresh, finely chopped rosemary & thyme, to taste (or use dry, but fresh tastes best!)

  • A handful of freshly chopped parsley

  • 2 eggs

  • 2 cups turkey, chicken, or vegetable broth

Instructions:

Step 01:

Chop up your bread into whatever sized chunks you prefer. I tend to do smaller chunks because I grew up eating StoveTop Stuffing & that smaller size is just the size I like best! You do you, though!

Step 02:

Toss these chunks onto a baking sheet or two in one flat layer, and bake them at 250 degrees F for 30-45 minutes until they’re dried and not squishy anymore. Toss/flip them around every 10 or so minutes.

Step 03:

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. In a large skillet, melt the butter & add your onions. You want to saute these in the butter over medium heat until they’re nice & cooked through. This can take 10-20 mins!

Step 04:

Add your herbs & spices, your salt, and your pepper. Stir to combine.

Step 05:

Put your bread chunks into a large bowl & pour this onion/celery/butter mixture over them. Stir to coat the bread well with the buttery mixture.

Step 06:

In a separate bowl, add your broth (make sure it’s not hot broth) & eggs. Whisk these together, then pour this over your bread mixture. Stir this bread until all of the liquid is absorbed into the bread.

Step 07:

Pour the mixture into a 9x13 baking dish, slice a few more pats of butter and place on top of the stuffing, and bake at 350 degrees F for 30-45 minutes, until it’s nicely golden brown on top.

Step 08:

If you want to reheat this as leftovers later, I suggest adding a spoonful or two of turkey drippings or broth on top of the stuffing so it stays moist & doesn’t dry out too much.

Hope you enjoy!
